The Italian family tannery La Biesseuno (Verona) is the world leader in the production of deer leather. Each year, they produce more than 200,000 m2 of deer skins intended for the shoe, leather goods and clothing sectors. Deer skin is particularly light and resistant. Additionally, the softness, delicacy and grain of the flower make each piece of leather unique and special. The entire production process as well as the finished product are controlled and comply with all current regulations regarding energy and environmental impact.

The story

La Tannerie was established in 1975. It is a family business in which owners, salespeople and technicians work in close contact with customers to produce a finished product according to individual requirements. All production phases take place exclusively in their two factories in Italy.

Deerskin

Deer skin has unique natural properties. It is soft, breathable and very flexible. Its characteristic lightness allows the manufacture of flexible and comfortable shoes.

The deer skins worked by Tannerie La Biesseuno come from North America (white-tailed deer). This skin was used in the past by Native Americans to make clothing and objects necessary for their daily lives.

These are wild animals hunted in a controlled and respectful manner within the limits programmed annually by each State on the basis of censuses. Indeed, the deer population in the absence of natural predators tends to grow uncontrolled, causing damage in the agricultural sector in particular. This process is therefore considered necessary and focuses on a given period (between November and December).

La Tannerie La Biesseuno only works with those who respect this animal and the legislation concerning its hunting. Furthermore, it only processes high quality skins, which represents approximately 40% of each batch made available by American suppliers.

Compliance with standards

Tannerie La Biesseuno has always been sensitive to issues related to environmental impact. Manual machining and that with machines are designed to obtain a lower energy impact and less use of water. The product is controlled and complies with current regulations:

• REACH , Proposition 65 and the CPSIA : laws which regulate the use of chemical substances and which aim to ensure a better level of protection of the health of workers and the environment.
• SA 8000 Certification : international standard developed by CEPAA aimed at certifying certain aspects of company management linked to social responsibility…
