Dainite English rubber soles are known to all aficionados. Adherent, robust and elegant, we give them an important place in our collection. In this article you will discover the know-how and history of this century-old house.

The History of Harborro Rubber

Dainite products have been manufactured by the Harboro Rubber company since 1894. The company is still located in Market Harborough (the heart of the British shoe industry, between Leicester and Northampton), under the management of the founder's family.

Dainite is the trade name created from the local expression of the time describing the factory's work rate "day and night". The company's very first products were soles and heels - the first invoice dated October 9, 1894 was for "red soles for women" and "black rubber soles" (these were sold by weight!).

Building on its success, the company moved its factory in 2006 just 800 meters further than the historic location, in order to modernize, expand and thus make itself more productive without skimping on quality. Dainite soles are today recognized worldwide for their many qualities.

Properties

Ideal for rainy weather or for two-wheel users thanks to its optimal grip, the Dainite sole has built its reputation for its high quality and practicality combining waterproofness, comfort and ease of maintenance. Its carbon-free composition is enriched with minerals allowing the soles to patina naturally, taking on an elegant color and leaving no marks on the ground.

Focus on the gum

The rubber of the Dainite soles is made of non-abrasive natural rubber, ie which does not wear away with friction and which does not leave marks.

Natural rubber is the oldest and most widespread. In its raw (uncooked) state, rubber has properties of little industrial interest with the exception of its tensile strength because natural rubber is crystallizable. Raw rubber tears easily and is plastic, meaning that when deformed it does not return to its original dimensions. In summer it is soft, sticky and sticky; in winter, hard and steep.

Vulcanized (cooked) natural rubber is considered a general purpose material because its properties are considered valuable, making it a rubber of choice.

Differences with Vibram

Harboro Rubber (Dainite) supplies the largest shoe companies in the world. We chose the Dainite from part of our collection. Also, we have models on soles from the Italian Vibram, also famous worldwide for its more adventurous aesthetic in non-abrasive rubber. Vibram soles were historically designed in the 1930s to equip hiking and climbing shoes. Learn more in the dedicated article here .

Our associations

We have chosen Dainite soles for a wide variety of models: such as the Basile ankle boots, the Pablo derbies or the Anduze

all assembled with a Goodyear welt (item available soon) allowing resoling and therefore offering robustness and a considerable lifespan to these shoes.

The finesse and elegance of Dainite soles give the appearance of a traditional leather sole, which allows them to be worn in both formal and more casual situations, a criterion often essential for many users.
